Our History

From specialist marine workforce provider to global strategic delivery partner

Since 1982, Intermarine UK has evolved from supporting local shipyards in the United Kingdom to delivering workforce and project solutions across strategically important marine, defence, offshore, energy, and infrastructure programmes worldwide.

1982

Intermarine UK was founded in 1982 in the United Kingdom as a specialist provider of marine trades and shipyard support services.

The company was established to assist local shipyards in addressing shortages of skilled labour by supplying experienced welders, fabricators, fitters, and other essential trades within the maritime and vessel maintenance sectors.

Initially, the company’s operations concentrated on supporting maintenance and repair programmes for commercial and naval vessels, establishing a reputation for reliable delivery, practical expertise, and worker dependability in the UK marine industry.

1990

Throughout the 1990s, we expanded our workforce capabilities and customer base, becoming a recognised partner to major UK shipyards and marine operators.

As programme requirements evolved, the business grew beyond short-term labour provision into more coordinated workforce deployment—supplying larger multi-trade teams to support refit, repair, and maintenance programmes across the marine sector.

This period laid the foundation for our long-term relationships with shipyards, prime contractors, and marine operators, transforming the business into a specialist marine workforce partner rather than a generalist labour provider.

2000

As demand increased across the defence and marine sectors, Intermarine UK expanded into naval shipbuilding, ship repair, and complex marine programmes that supported major shipyards and defence contractors.

During this period, we strengthened our capabilities across workforce mobilisation, multi-trade coordination, and marine project support by supplying skilled personnel in highly regulated, safety-critical environments where quality and programme certainty were essential.

Our growing involvement across naval infrastructure, vessel maintenance, and long-term marine programmes lays the foundations for its continued expansion into strategically important defence, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

2010

Intermarine UK has continued to diversify into the offshore energy, infrastructure, and nuclear sectors while also expanding its international workforce capabilities.

Throughout this period, we have enhanced our expertise in global recruitment, international mobilisation, and cross-border workforce deployments. This has enabled us to support increasingly complex operational environments across the United Kingdom, Europe, and emerging international markets.

This decade has marked a significant shift in Intermarine UK’s evolution, establishing the business as a trusted international workforce partner for strategically important projects across various sectors and geographies.

2020

Today, Intermarine UK operates across the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Asia-Pacific region, leveraging a growing network of specialist businesses that support the marine, defence, offshore, and critical infrastructure sectors.

We take pride in our evolution from a traditional workforce supplier to a provider of integrated programme support and project partnerships through our Group family. This transition is designed to help customers tackle complex workforce and operational challenges on a large scale, while also contributing to strategically significant national programmes worldwide.
